THE ARTS SOCIETY GRANTA

A warm welcome to the Arts Society Granta!

If you have, or would like to have, an interest in and appreciation of the Arts and would like to hear from highly qualified experts who are also great communicators of their enthusiasm on a wide range of topics, including paintings, sculpture, literature, furniture design, architecture, photography… in a friendly, inclusive atmosphere, then you are in the right place! Please take a look at our website and then you are invited to come along to one of our meetings at Churchill college on a Tuesday morning (the dates and lecture topics can be found here).

We meet from 10am at Churchill College, before going together into the Wolfson Hall at 10.45am for notices of all the trips, extra talks and visits you could join in and then the lecture itself (there is a hearing loop system if you need it). The buzz of conversation over a (free!) coffee before the lecture is a testament to the friendly atmosphere of our meetings. You are also invited to join us afterwards for lunch if you would like - excellent value & a further discount for being a member - in the Churchill dining hall, which is a lovely way to meet like minded people and chat about the lecture, art, and a wide range of other interesting topics!

You might know a lot about the arts or know very little - that doesn’t matter; as long as you are open to learning something new and interesting and want an entertaining morning.

So do come and pay us a visit! Make yourself known at the registration desk when you arrive and you can be assured of a friendly welcome.

Best wishes

Jane

Dr Jane Marjoram, Chair, The Arts Society Granta

LATEST NEWS

Granta has a new Chair. Jane Marjoram was Head of a large History department in a sixth form college. She now works part-time as a trainer and examiner for an exam board. Her mother was an artist and keen member of her local NADFAS. Jane recently learnt that this was the same organisation as the current Art Society! Jane herself enjoys stone carving as a hobby, and is particularly interested in the challenges of carving human heads.

At our AGM in May we thanked Nan Taplin for all the care, time and thought she has given to The Arts Society Granta in her time on the Committee and most recently as Chair. She will certainly be missed as she brought an enthusiasm, energy and commitment to the role which has been exemplary. We are delighted though that it is not goodbye, as she remains a regular member of the society and also has kindly taken on the task of keeping this website updated.

Our next Special Interest day is on Tuesday November 24th, and features Mary Alexander, talking about 'Paris - the allure of the City of Light' There will be two lectures in the morning and one after lunch, which you can purchase (with a 10% discount!) in the Churchill dining hall. Full details are on the 'What's On/Special Interest page. Numbers will be limited, so book early!
