VIth Form Art Exhibition, the latest news
Before Covid, Granta, in conjunction with our sister societies in Cambridge held an annual competition for sixth form art students. Sixth formers from local schools submitted their work and prizes were awarded. An exhibition of the work was then held in the Michaelhouse Café and we were always blown away by the standard and range of the work produced by our talented young people.
During Covid the exhibition went on line for 2020 and 2021.
In May 2022, concerns were raised by the Joint Qualifications Board (JCQ) that that the exhibiting of the work of A Level students might benefit some candidates over others. Schools interpreted the ruling differently but several felt they must withdraw from the competition in case they were accused of malpractice, so the exhibition was postponed, and was rescheduled very successfully to October, at which point there was no longer any risk of compromising the marking process since the A Level and IB exams were over.
There have been several changes of personnel in the AS Cambridge committees, as a result of which we not been able to organise an exhibition for 2023. However, we very much hope to be able to get back to an annual exhibition in 2024, possibly showcasing the art of younger pupils, to avoid the concerns surrounding Years 11 and 13 exmination work.
